Editorial and medical review policy

Diet advice affects health, so every health page on dietitian.pk follows the same process before and after it is published.

Who writes and who reviews

Health pages are written for the site and then checked by a qualified dietitian from our team before publication. Each page shows its writer, its medical reviewer and the date it was last reviewed. Reviewers check that the advice is accurate, safe for the people it is aimed at, and clear about when someone needs a doctor instead.

Sources we use

We base advice on, in this order:

  1. Clinical practice guidelines and position statements from bodies such as the World Health Organization, the American Diabetes Association, KDIGO, the American College of Gastroenterology and the Endocrine Society.
  2. Systematic reviews and trials published in peer-reviewed journals.
  3. Public-health sources such as the NHS, CDC, NIDDK and FAO.

The main sources are listed at the bottom of each page. Food and portion values for Pakistani dishes are approximate and are labelled as such.

How we write

  • We answer the reader's question in the first lines of the page.
  • We use plain language and Pakistani foods and household measures.
  • We say what diet can and cannot do, and we do not promise results such as a number of kilos in a number of days.
  • We do not promote supplements, teas or detox products.
  • Every page tells readers when to see a doctor first.

Updates and corrections

We review health pages at least once a year, and sooner when guidelines change. Seasonal pages such as the Ramadan diet plan are reviewed before each Ramadan. If you find an error, message us on WhatsApp or contact us. We check it and correct the page, and the review date changes when we do.
