Thyroid diet chart for women with hypothyroidism
No diet cures an underactive thyroid; the tablet does. A thyroid diet chart helps in three ways: it times meals so the tablet works (empty stomach, then breakfast 30–60 minutes later), it controls weight, and it keeps the diet balanced with normal iodised salt and enough protein and fibre.
5 rules of a thyroid diet
- Take the tablet on an empty stomach with plain water, then wait 30–60 minutes before tea, milk or food.
- Keep calcium and iron tablets 4 hours apart from your thyroid tablet. Soya products also reduce absorption if taken together.
- Use iodised salt, in normal amounts. Do not add iodine supplements unless your doctor advises.
- Plan for weight. A slower metabolism makes portion control and daily walking more important.
- Eat enough protein and fibre. Daal, eggs, chicken, dahi, sabzi and fruit help with fullness and constipation, which is common with an underactive thyroid.

| Shaam ki chai | Chai with little sugar + roasted chanay | no biscuits |
| Raat · 8:00 | Sabzi, fish or chicken, raita, 1 small chapati | light |
Check your BMI
Uses the Asian BMI ranges, which are lower than the Western ones because health risks start at a lower weight in South Asians.
BMI is a screening number, not a diagnosis. It does not separate muscle from fat, and it is not used in pregnancy.
Send my BMI to a dietitianTalk to a dietitian first if
- You have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism)
- You are pregnant or planning pregnancy
- You also have PCOS or diabetes
- Your TSH is not yet controlled or your dose was just changed

Thyroid diet: common questions
Is there a special diet that cures hypothyroidism?
No. Hypothyroidism is treated with thyroid hormone tablets (levothyroxine). Diet helps with weight, energy and cholesterol, and helps the tablet work properly when you take it the right way.
Can I eat cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli with thyroid?
Yes. Cooked cabbage, gobhi and similar vegetables are fine in normal amounts. Goitrogens in these vegetables matter mainly when iodine intake is low; with iodised salt and cooking, normal amounts are fine for most people on treatment. Only very large amounts of raw vegetables of this family are a concern.
Should I take iodine supplements for thyroid?
Not unless your doctor advises it. Using iodised salt in normal amounts is enough for most people in Pakistan. Extra iodine can make some thyroid problems worse.
Why is it hard to lose weight with thyroid?
An underactive thyroid slows metabolism. Once the dose is right and your TSH is normal, weight loss works like it does for anyone else, with a planned diet and regular activity.
Can I drink milk or tea with my thyroid tablet?
Take the tablet with plain water. Wait 30 to 60 minutes before tea, milk or breakfast, and about 4 hours before calcium or iron tablets.
